  • List assumptions about ground conditions. Rock, roots or services found while digging should be a variation.
  • Say how long the price holds. Timber prices move, and 30 days is common.

Rules to mention in Australia

Home building contracts are state law. In NSW, for example, residential work over $5,000 needs a written contract and work over $20,000 needs home building compensation cover. Check your state's rules and put your licence number on the quote.

Is a quote a fixed price?
A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the variation in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
Do I have to charge GST?
You must register for GST once your turnover is $75,000 or more. If you are registered, quotes to consumers should show the total price including GST. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
