What goes on a fencing quote
The usual line items. The AI picks the ones your job needs, and you can add or remove any.
- Remove old fence
- Posts (concreted)
- Rails and palings / panels
- Gates and hardware
- Concrete
- Disposal
- Labour (by metre or by day)
Tips for fencing quotes that win the job
- Quote by the metre and list gates separately. Boundary jobs are often re-measured.
- If neighbours are sharing, offer to send each one their half as a separate quote.
- Exclude finding the boundary. The owners need to agree where the line is.
Rules to mention in Australia
Dividing fences are covered by state law (e.g. the Dividing Fences Act in NSW). Neighbours usually share the cost.
General information, not legal advice. Check the current rules with your regulator or council.
Example job description
Replace 25m of 1.8m Colorbond boundary fence, Penrith. Remove old paling fence, posts concreted in. Neighbours splitting the cost. About 2 days.
The more you say (size, location, who supplies what, how long it takes), the better the draft. Anything you leave out goes into the assumptions, so the customer can see it.
Questions
- Is a quote a fixed price?
- A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the variation in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
- Do I have to charge GST?
- You must register for GST once your turnover is $75,000 or more. If you are registered, quotes to consumers should show the total price including GST. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
- Does the AI set my prices?
- No. It drafts the scope, line items, assumptions and exclusions. You type in your own rates, and the GST and totals are worked out exactly in your browser.
- Is it free?
- Yes. No sign-up, no card. Your business details are saved on your device, not on our servers.
