What goes on a electrical quote
The usual line items. The AI picks the ones your job needs, and you can add or remove any.
- Labour (hours)
- Downlights and drivers
- Cable and fittings
- Power points / GPOs
- Testing and certification
- Call-out or travel
Tips for electrical quotes that win the job
- List each fitting with a quantity, so adding two more lights later is a clear variation, not an argument.
- Say whether ceiling access is assumed. Most surprise costs on lighting jobs come from no roof space.
- Put making good (patching, painting around new fittings) in the exclusions unless you're doing it.
Rules to mention in New Zealand
Prescribed electrical work needs a Certificate of Compliance (CoC), and some work also an Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC). Say on the quote that these are included.
General information, not legal advice. Check the current rules with your regulator or council.
Example job description
Install 6 LED downlights in a lounge with existing ceiling access, Hamilton. Replace 2 double power points in the kitchen. Testing and CoC. About 5 hours.
The more you say (size, location, who supplies what, how long it takes), the better the draft. Anything you leave out goes into the assumptions, so the customer can see it.
Questions
- Is a quote a fixed price?
- A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the change in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
- Do I have to charge GST?
- You must register for GST once your turnover will be more than $60,000 in 12 months. If you are registered, show the total including GST on quotes to homeowners. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
- Does the AI set my prices?
- No. It drafts the scope, line items, assumptions and exclusions. You type in your own rates, and the GST and totals are worked out exactly in your browser.
- Is it free?
- Yes. No sign-up, no card. Your business details are saved on your device, not on our servers.
