- Quote by room and say how many coats. "Two coats" ends the "I thought it was three" argument.
- State the prep level. Most painting disputes are about prep, not paint.
- Exclude wallpaper removal and rotten timber repair unless you've seen them.
Rules to mention in New Zealand
If the house was built before 1980, the old paint may contain lead. Say on the quote how you'll handle prep and dust.

The more you say (size, location, who supplies what, how long it takes), the better the draft. Anything you leave out goes into the assumptions, so the customer can see it.

- A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the change in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
- Do I have to charge GST?
- You must register for GST once your turnover will be more than $60,000 in 12 months. If you are registered, show the total including GST on quotes to homeowners. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
