What goes on a roofing quote
The usual line items. The AI picks the ones your job needs, and you can add or remove any.
- Strip and dispose of old roofing
- Roofing sheets or tiles
- Flashings and ridging
- Spouting / gutters and downpipes
- Underlay / sarking
- Scaffold or edge protection
- Labour (days)
Tips for roofing quotes that win the job
- Say what happens if you find rotten purlins or battens once the old roof is off. Quote a rate for each replaced length.
- List the scaffold or edge protection as its own line. It's a real cost and clients often don't expect it.
- Write down the weather: "timeline depends on dry days".
Rules to mention in New Zealand
Re-roofing can be restricted building work that needs a Licensed Building Practitioner, and sometimes a building consent. Say on the quote who is handling it.
General information, not legal advice. Check the current rules with your regulator or council.
Example job description
Replace 120m² of corroded corrugated iron roofing with long-run Colorsteel, Dunedin. New flashings and spouting, remove old iron. Scaffold needed. About 5 days.
The more you say (size, location, who supplies what, how long it takes), the better the draft. Anything you leave out goes into the assumptions, so the customer can see it.
Questions
- Is a quote a fixed price?
- A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the change in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
- Do I have to charge GST?
- You must register for GST once your turnover will be more than $60,000 in 12 months. If you are registered, show the total including GST on quotes to homeowners. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
- Does the AI set my prices?
- No. It drafts the scope, line items, assumptions and exclusions. You type in your own rates, and the GST and totals are worked out exactly in your browser.
- Is it free?
- Yes. No sign-up, no card. Your business details are saved on your device, not on our servers.
