What goes on a tiling quote
The usual line items. The AI picks the ones your job needs, and you can add or remove any.
- Removal of old tiles
- Waterproofing membrane
- Screed / floor preparation
- Tiling labour (by m²)
- Adhesive and grout
- Trims and silicone
Tips for tiling quotes that win the job
- Quote by square metre and list the areas, so a change of tile size or extra wall is easy to re-price.
- Say who supplies the tiles and allow about 10% extra for cuts and breakage.
- Exclude problems under the old tiles (rotten floor, uneven substrate) until you've seen them.
Rules to mention in New Zealand
Waterproofing in wet areas must meet the Building Code. Say on the quote which membrane system you use and whether you'll give the client a producer statement.
General information, not legal advice. Check the current rules with your regulator or council.
Example job description
Tile a 2m x 2.4m bathroom floor and the shower walls to 2m high, Nelson. Customer supplies 600x300 tiles. Waterproofing included. About 4 days.
The more you say (size, location, who supplies what, how long it takes), the better the draft. Anything you leave out goes into the assumptions, so the customer can see it.
Questions
- Is a quote a fixed price?
- A quote is generally a fixed price for the work it describes, while an estimate is your best guess. If the job changes, agree the change in writing. This is why Sorted Quote lists assumptions and exclusions on every quote.
- Do I have to charge GST?
- You must register for GST once your turnover will be more than $60,000 in 12 months. If you are registered, show the total including GST on quotes to homeowners. Untick "GST registered" if you aren't.
- Does the AI set my prices?
- No. It drafts the scope, line items, assumptions and exclusions. You type in your own rates, and the GST and totals are worked out exactly in your browser.
- Is it free?
- Yes. No sign-up, no card. Your business details are saved on your device, not on our servers.
